Deuteronômio 8:2

2 Lembrem-se de todo o caminho pelo qual o Senhor, seu Deus, os guiou no deserto durante estes quarenta anos, para humilhar vocês, para pôr vocês à prova, para saber o que estava no coração de vocês, se guardariam ou não os seus mandamentos.

2 And thou shalt remember all the way which Jehovah thy God hath led thee these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or not.
