23 When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah. [Marah] means [bitter.])

23 Todavia, quando chegaram a Mara, não lhes foi possível beber da água dali, porquanto era amarga. Esse é o motivo pelo qual esse lugar passou a ser chamado Mara.
